Former Chelsea Player Almost Knocks Down Player After Racial Abuse In China (Photos)

Demba Ba is at the centre of a racism storm after being allegedly abused during a game in the Chinese Super League.  The former Chelsea, Newcastle and West Ham front man reacted furiously to a comment made by Zhang Li in Shanghai Shenhua’s 1-1 draw with Changchun Yatai.

Ba grabbed his opponent and almost lifted him off the ground in anger and wlas seen pointing to the colour of his skin to officials and players.

Former Watford man Odion Ighalo, who plays for Yatai, spent minutes on the pitch trying to calm the 33-year-old down.

After the contest, Shenhua manager Wu Jingui said of the incident: “The Chinese Super League has players of many different skin colours.

“We should respect our opponents and there should be no discrimination,“I cannot calm down now. I feel great regret about the lack of respect to a player.”

It is alleged that the player repeatedly shouted “you black” towards Ba.

His club called for serious disciplinary actions against Li with growing pressure from fans to for a serious punishment.

They tweeted: “Demba Ba is offended by racist words from Changchun Yatai player Zhang Li.

“CFA should take serious disciplinary actions!! #saynotoracism.”

Besiktas, Ba’s former club, showed their support for the striker and added: “#NoToRacism, You’re not alone.”

It is Ba’s second stint with the Chinese club following his horrific leg break two years ago.
